Open CKey Scanner for iPhone

The iPhone app for CKey, from Clear Key Solutions. It opens straight into the camera, shows what a code holds before anything happens, and can make a CKey or a link on openckey.org.

Coming to the App Store. It needs an iPhone with iOS 17 or later. There is no account to create.

What it does

The same rules as the scanner and renderer on this site, in an app that is ready the moment you need it.

  • Scan first

The app opens on a camera scanner. When it reads a CKey, it shows the content first, a link, some text or a contact card, and then offers one action you choose. Nothing opens on its own. For an openckey.org link it can also check the link’s status. Photos can be scanned too.

  • Scan from the Lock Screen

On iOS 18, a Lock Screen control opens the scanner while iPhone is still locked. On iOS 17, a Lock Screen widget opens it in one tap. The Lock Screen scanner has no network access and records nothing.

  • History on your iPhone

What you scan can be kept in a history that stays on the device. You can turn it off or clear it at any time.

  • Make a CKey

Type a link or some text and the app draws its CKey, with appearance options for how it looks. Certification then checks that a styled code still scans, and shows its grade.

  • Create a link on openckey.org

Make hosted text (/text) or a short link (/sq), just as on the home page. Links are anonymous and checked with Cloudflare Turnstile. A short link’s destination is safety-scanned before it works. Nothing can be edited after creation, an expiry of 1, 7 or 30 days is optional, and every record retires after 24 months.

  • Counts, not content

By default the app sends aggregate scan counts, such as how many scans succeeded, at most once an hour. It never sends what you scanned or anything that identifies you or your iPhone. You can switch this to Count on this iPhone only or Off in the app’s Settings. See privacy and telemetry.

Support

The app has no account and keeps nothing about you on our side, so there is no account or password to recover. Your history lives only on your iPhone.

  • Common questions

Short answers about scanning, links and privacy are in the questions.

  • Check a link

To see whether an openckey.org address is active, pending its safety scan, expired, retired or blocked, use link status.

  • Report a code or link

If a code leads to an openckey.org link that is harmful or impersonates someone, use the report form.

  • Something isn’t working

For a bug in the app or in CKey itself, open an issue on GitHub. Say which iPhone and iOS version you use, and what you expected to happen. Security problems go in a private security report instead.

The official app

Open CKey Scanner is published by Clear Key Solutions, with the bundle ID org.openckey.scanner. Any other app that uses the Open CKey name isn’t ours. How to tell the real CKey.
